Membership Services

Surf Life Saving is proud of the quality and calibre of our members who provide an invaluable voluntary service to the community.  Today there are 28,487 members from the 59 Surf Life Saving Clubs around Queensland, who give countless hours to keep the public safe at our beaches.

Membership services primarily exists to look after our volunteer members and develop them to be the very best they can be.  Membership services is responsible for growing membership, particularly active membership (patrolling members) throughout the state, however the safety and development of our members remains our first and foremost priority in our activities.  The main role in our programs is to provide opportunities for all our members to develop their ability to interact and work with one another, while learning the leadership skills that will ultimately improve the safety of our beaches.

Membership Services can be summed up in the 4 R's

1. Recruitment

2. Retention

3. Recognition

4. Reward

Membership Services also encompass member development including youth development, junior activities (nippers) and member welfare.

The six main goals for youth and membership development are:

  • Enhance recruitment and retention of membership
  • Promote lifesaving skills
  • Develop leadership, teamwork and people management skills (lifeskills)
  • Recognise members and their contributions in the organisation
  • Set up a system to allow youth to have an impact and involvement into the organisation (youth voice) and
  • Support Branches and Clubs in developing youth and membership programs.
